At the start of our K2 lesson this week, we reviewed the days of the week—but with a twist.
Our teacher sang the days in a super funny way, intentionally mixing up the order and changing his voice. The result? The children laughed out loud… and then immediately started correcting him confidently.
That playful “mistake” is actually a powerful teaching strategy for early learners.
Why humour helps language learning (especially for K2)
When children are relaxed and engaged, they participate more. A funny routine lowers the pressure and turns speaking into something they want to do.
In this short warm-up, children practise:
- recognising and repeating days-of-the-week vocabulary
- understanding sequence (what comes before/after)
- listening for accuracy and responding with confidence
- taking turns and speaking clearly in a group
Try it at home: The “Oops!” Days of the Week game
You only need 60 seconds:
- Sing the days of the week together.
- On the second round, swap one day on purpose.
- Ask: “Is that right?” and let your child correct you.
- Celebrate the correction: “You’re right—great listening!”
This turns memorisation into real listening + speaking practice.
