• Santa Claus arrives in December: Santa is typically a big hit with kids in Hong Kong, who love getting his special presents. The popular tradition here is to go out on shopping sprees shortly before Christmas – parents can help fill their children’s stockings early!
• Christmas cake: This Yuletide staple is often eaten as part of a traditional Christmas feast. Traditional Hong Kong recipes involve layers of rich cream cheese frosting sandwiched between two thick sponge cakes, covered in chocolate ganache or whipped cream. You can also find modern takes on this classic dish, such as gingerbread houses or snowmen-shaped cakes.
• Christmassy markets: Downtown areas throughout Hong Kong are alive with festive shoppers carrying brightly wrapped presents and eager to sample delicacies like eggnog and raspberry pithy tartlets. There are usually several Christmassy markets open until the New Year, perfect for stocking up for that midnight feast!
• Family parties: Whether it’s an elaborate dinner party or just an evening gathering around the fire with some delicious treats, family celebrations are always a highlight of the Christmas season in Hong Kong.

Fun to Learn Christmas Event
Our Christmas event last year was a great success. We told the children that Santa lost all the presents and asked them for their help. We went to different shopping malls near the center and asked the kids to solve different clues and find the presents from different places nearby. They had to complete tasks such as performing a Christmas carol in a shopping mall and giving out Christmas cards to strangers in the neighborhood etc.
This year, as we all prepare for Christmas, we know that Santa is having a lot of fun. For those who are not familiar with this holiday tradition, Santa traditionally spends the month of December visiting children in their homes to give them presents.
For this year, they will have to find the clues, complete some tasks, and play some games as these would be Santa’s requests, as long as Santa is happy and satisfied. If he is not satisfied with what the children have done or if they don’t meet his expectations, then he may not appear at all.
